🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT: All westbound lanes of Ford Road at Schaefer are currently closed as tens of thousands of people take part in a massive demonstration marking the 10th of Muharram, also known as Ashura — a day of mourning observed by Shia Muslims around the world in honor of Imam Hussain.

Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD after standing up against tyranny and oppression. His death is seen as a symbol of resistance, justice, and sacrifice.

The march — one of the largest Ashura processions in Metro Detroit — is expected to bring heavy traffic along Ford Road from Schaefer to Greenfield for the next several hours. Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes.

Alternate routes? Let’s get out of here!
