Gavin Newsom’s Hypocrisy on Redistricting is Plain to See – RedState

This is the Democrat Party’s great shining hope to take the White House in 2028? Seriously? The impeccably coiffed California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has the political instincts along with the personal charm and charisma of a rutabaga?

Last month, in response to a direct question from Ashley Zavala, California Capitol Correspondent for KCRA News, Governor Newsom claimed that California’s redistricting effort was only being done in response to Texas’s (legal) redistricting. I think we all knew that was horse squeeze; now we have verification.

First, the question and answer:

Ashley Zavala: Governor, I just want to confirm, if Texas does not move forward with this effort, though, would California not either?

Governor Newsom: We’d have no need to move forward.

Yet moving forward, Sacramento is, as was the intention all along. That’s fine, as long as they follow their legal process, which is precisely what Texas did.

The post states in full:

NEW: California Democrats in Assembly this AM changed the state’s Redistricting ballot measure legislation, which basically now allows new Congressional maps to go into effect NO MATTER what other states do.

Even if Texas backtracks or courts strike it down, CA would have new maps.

That’s fine. As long as they follow the legal process. No Congressional district is sacrosanct. No Congressional district is immune, except ones that encompass an entire state, as is the case in seven states: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming. In California, though, where Democrat politicians are especially prone to saying one thing and doing another, the legislature has changed the wording of their Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 8 to kick-start the redistricting process regardless of what Texas does – and while Texas has indeed passed its bill, there will doubtless be legal challenges.

So, California may even end up redrawing its districts before Texas. And they are set to vote on their bill almost immediately after the changes; the vote is expected on Thursday, leaving no time for comment, and little time to even read the thing.

Par for the course for leftist jurisdictions.

Gavin Newsom Threatens to Redraw CA’s Congressional Districts Before Midterms; Here’s Why He Can’t

Here’s the onion: Newsom’s prevarication aside, if the left wants to play this game, the right should cheerfully take them up on it. We’ve got far better cards than they have.

So, sure, Governor Newsom and all your leftist California minions – you go on ahead. If you want to play, we’ll play. Your blue states are already gerrymandered to a fare-thee-well; there’s just not that much ground you can gain. Our side, though? We’ve got running room to spare.

This is going to end up being very interesting indeed.
