AUSTIN, Texas (LifeSiteNews) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation to ban taxpayer dollars from paying for abortion logistics.
On August 20, Gov. Abbott officially signed Senate Bill 33, strengthening Texas’s pro-life policies by prohibiting public funds from being used to support abortion-related activities, including logistical assistance for abortions, such as travel, lodging, meals, or childcare for women seeking out-of-state abortions.
“In Texas, we support mothers and their children,” Abbott said at the ceremonial signing. “I am also proud to sign a law to ban taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. Texas is a pro-life and pro-family state. With these laws, we will stay that way.”
The bill passed the Texas Senate on April 16 and will take effect on September 1. The legislation amends the Texas Government Code to prohibit state and local government entities, such as municipalities and counties, from using taxpayer money to fund abortion providers or “abortion assistance entities.”
These entities include organizations that provide logistical assistance for abortions, such as arranging or funding transportation, accommodations, or other services for women seeking abortions, particularly out of state.
On the same day, Abbott also signed Senate Bill 31, known as the Life of the Mother Act, that “protects pregnant women by ensuring healthcare providers administer treatment to a woman who has a life-threating physical or medical emergency that places her at risk of death or serious injury.”
“This session, the Texas Legislature worked together to pass the Life of the Mother Act to protect both mothers and babies while giving medical professionals the legal security and clinical clarity they desire,” Abbott declared.
Recently, Texas has passed and introduced a series of pro-life laws, strengthening protection for the unborn and pregnant mothers.
Earlier this month, Texas introduced a bill that would allow citizens to sue those who manufacture, distribute, or prescribe abortion pills, the most common method of killing preborn babies in the U.S. today.
Similarly, in July, LifeSiteNews reported that Planned Parenthood announced that it would be closing one of its largest and most notorious abortion mills in Texas after the abortion provider faced massive funding cuts.
