It would take a heart of stone not to laugh. From CNN,

Minnesota Democrats revoke endorsement of democratic socialist candidate for Minneapolis mayor.

But not for the reason you’d think. The convention held by the Minneapolis branch of the party on July 19, which took place in the city’s NBA arena, was so shambolic in its operation that the state Democratic party had no choice but to throw out the results.

Local affiliate Fox 9-TV reports,

[F]indings after the review show that the voting system for endorsement produced a very inaccurate count of the first, undercounted by 176 votes.

On the basis of the undercount, the local party mistakenly eliminated an also-ran candidate after this first round of voting.

As I understand the chain of events, the convention ran for some 12 hours, and minutes before the arena rental period was to end, the few remaining conventioneers “endorsed” socialist state Sen. Omar Fateh on a show of hands. Not kidding.

Beyond CNN, other national outlets have taken notice of the Minneapolis ineptitude,

  • New York Post: Mamdani-like Democratic Socialist Omar Fateh loses key endorsement in Minneapolis mayoral race.
  • New York Times: Minnesota’s Democratic Party Revokes Endorsement of Mayoral Candidate

The state party has now banned the Minneapolis Democrats from trying again this year. The mayoral election will be held this November. Sen. Fateh will face two-term incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey and a bunch of other candidates in a ranked-choice voting contest.

Keep in mind that the same people who ran this fiasco (Minneapolis Democrats) have run the city itself with a complete monopoly on power dating back to the 1960’s.

But under the spotlights last month, they were unable to run a meeting or count votes properly.

I wonder if any larger conclusions could be reached from this episode.
