Prince William once played a “cheeky prank” on his wife Princess Kate, according to a former royal butler. Taking after his late mother, Princess Diana, and his paternal grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, William is known for having a hilarious sense of humour.
According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, William and Kate’s shared a humorous relationship, before telling Heart Bingo about one particular prank the 43-year-old played on his wife. Speaking of their relationship, he said: “They do love playing pranks. When you say play pranks, it’s more jokey; it’s silly things they do to each other.”
Reflecting on his time with the Royal Family, Mr Harrold explained the “cheeky prank”: “I remember one occasion when I was working there, William was playing a joke on Kate and telling her there was a black cat on the estate, saying it was a witch’s castle.”
Explaining further, he continued: “Kate wanted to see it, but we told her she kept missing it. William was just winding Kate up, and I was backing him up – and she was believing us.”
Speaking further on the couple’s sense of humour, he added that the pair also liked to play pranks on their staff.
He added: “They definitely do have wind-ups, and they play practical jokes on each other. But it’s just fun, they do it to the staff as well.”
As well as one another and their staff, the royal couple also liked to prank their family members – including Prince Harry.
According to the Mirror, Princess Kate reportedly once gave her brother-in-law a “Grow Your Own Girlfriend” kit.
Discussing occasions such as Christmas, Mr Harrold added: “[They] give each other silly gifts at Christmas, and have a bit of a giggle.”
The couple – now parents of three children aged 12, 10 and 7 – have now been married for 14 years after tying the knot in April 2011.
