Human remains believed to that of children have been found by builders carrying out luxury renovations on a home in Britain. The discovery came after workmen uncovered human bones buried in a cellar, with Crime Scene Investigators rushing to Cleveland Road in Lytham, Lancashire.
Police confirmed the remains are human and inquiries have led detectives to understand “they may be that of children and that this is an isolated historical burial”. Det Insp Andrew Crook said: “This is an incredibly sad discovery and we are continuing our inquiries to establish the identity of the remains, including their age and how they died.”
Mr Crook added: “Whilst we are keeping an open mind, I want to make it clear that we are not treating this as suspicious. We believe at this stage that the burial is a historic one.
“We would like to thank the homeowners and contractors for their patience whilst our inquiries were ongoing at the property.”
Police said the remains have been removed from the property and inquiries will continue to help identify whose they were.
Detectives have asked for anyone with information which could help identify them to call 101 quoting log 0616 of August 15.
