(LifeSiteNews) — Elon Musk appears to have put on hold his plans to launch an “America Party” while signaling support for Republican Vice President JD Vance should he choose to run for president in 2028.
Early this summer, Musk accused both major parties of expanding government and saddling the country with unprecedented debt – singling out former President Donald Trump and his allies for backing the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a spending package Musk claimed would increase the national debt by $5 trillion.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,” exclaimed Musk on X in June.
In a show of his severe disdain for the bill, elements of which stood in opposition to the mission and accomplishments of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk announced the creation of a new political party, the “America Party,” in response to what he called bipartisan complicity in bankrupting the United States.
“The Republican Party has a clean sweep of the executive, legislative and judicial branches and STILL had the nerve to massively increase the size of government,” lamented Musk at the time.
While “quietly pumping the brakes” on his plans to start a political party, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Musk has maintained ties with Vice President Vance.
“Musk has stayed in touch with Vance in recent weeks, and he has acknowledged to associates that if he goes ahead with forming a political party, he would damage his relationship with the vice president,” reported the WSJ, citing unnamed sources.
“Musk and his associates have told people close to him that he is considering using some of his vast financial resources to back Vance if he decides to run for president in 2028, some of the people said,” noted the WSJ report.
The billionaire also reportedly canceled a call with a group specializing in third-party campaigns.
Meanwhile, during an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Vance encouraged Musk to abandon plans to create a third political party and to stick with GOP, and to fight for change within the party, not attack it “from the outside.”
“I do think it would be a huge mistake for Elon to go forward with a third party. And my argument to him is whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far left as on the side of the American right,” said Vance. “You believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America.”
“The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle — where Democrats and Republicans both like him — that’s just not going to happen,” said Vance. “And so if he doesn’t like things the Republican Party is doing, my advice to Elon would be: Try to fix the Republican Party. Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want. Disagree with the President of the United States. But don’t pretend you can make a big difference with a third party.”
“I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump’s Republican Party,” added Vance.
