Afghan national pleads guilty to rape of girl, 12, in Nuneaton

An Afghan national has pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton.

Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Friday, changing his plea from not guilty to guilty for an incident that occurred on July 22.

Mulakhil, of no fixed address, had previously denied abducting a child, three counts of rape of a child under the age of 13, and two counts of sexual assault of a child under 14 at a hearing in August.

He appeared alongside co-defendant Mohammad Kabir, also aged 23.

Kabir, also of no fixed address, denied attempting to take a child, aiding and abetting rape of a child under 13, and intentional strangulation of the girl.

Kabir spoke only to confim his name, while Mulakhil also entered his guilty plea when presented on one charge of rape. Both were aided by interpreters.

The alleged incident sparked huge protests outside Nuneaton Town Hall on August 9. St George’s flags and Union Jack could be seen being held aloft by anti-immigration protestors.

More to follow.
