President Trump wasn’t the only one making news Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. His wife, First Lady Melania Trump, had an announcement of her own regarding a multinational effort designed to enhance the well-being of children “through the promotion of education, innovation, and technology.”
Mrs. Trump started out the day by accompanying her husband to his address in front of the crowd of global leaders. Things got a little weird when an escalator the couple was taking at the UN building came to a complete stop part way up, causing some confusion. If you’ve ever been on an escalator that abruptly stops, you know it can be jarring. Nonetheless, the Trumps made their way up the steps and into the assembly, where the president proceeded to, in the words of RedState’s Bonchie, “let it rip.”
The First Lady sat in the crowd and listened as her husband took the UN to task for not living up to its potential, ripped NATO for continuing to buy Russian gas, addressed the folly of European nations recognizing “Palestine,” highlighted the concerning rise in anti-Christian sentiments, and mocked the often self-defeating policies of countries seeking “renewable energy” sources.

Following the conclusion of her husband’s barnburner of a speech, Mrs. Trump addressed a luncheon for spouses of the heads of government and revealed plans to launch the Fostering the Future Together initiative. According to a White House press release, this will be “a global coalition of nations committed to enhancing the well-being of children through the promotion of education, innovation, and technology.” Or, in the words of Mrs. Trump herself, an effort “to ensure that every child can flourish in the digital era.”

The First Lady spoke of the need to take action, noting, “Our nations benefit from advancements in technology — saving lives, expanding access to knowledge, connecting people, and of course, safety. Nothing comes before safety.” She added, “Great minds have turned marbles into microchips, paper airplanes into drones, and kites into satellites.”
Per the press release, Fostering the Future Together’s goals during the ramp up period will be:

Prioritization of personal development of children.

Unification of efforts surrounding children, technology, and education.

Collaboration with the private sector to provide access to innovative education technology, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and blockchain.

Exchange of solutions encompassing advantages and risks of artificial intelligence.

Joining the First Lady in this effort will be the spouses of government heads, and the programs will implemented at the local level in their respective countries.
