Aide to Massachusetts Governor Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking – RedState

Massachusetts Democrats are just having all manner of problems lately, aren’t they? If it’s not Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) exhibiting her 1/1,024th of an Economics 101 capacity, it’s the mayor of sanctuary-city Boston swearing to protect all that city’s illegal aliens, no matter how many crimes they commit.

On Wednesday, just to change things up, Massachusetts decided to present us with an aide to Governor Maura Healey (D) getting busted for cocaine trafficking – a scheme in which he reportedly was having drugs shipped to his workplace. As in, a government office building.

Yes, really.

An aide to Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was arrested for cocaine trafficking after investigators intercepted packages with the drug slated to be delivered to a state office building where he worked, prosecutors said.

LaMar Cook, 45, of Springfield, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Wednesday and was ordered held without bail pending a court hearing, Boston.com reported.

In addition to the drug charge, Cook is also charged with illegally owning a firearm and ammunition.

Now, dealing with the Devil’s Dandruff is one thing. But having shipments of nose candy sent to your workplace, in a government office at that, that’s one of the more interesting combinations of chutzpah and stupidity that we’ve seen in a while. And, we might note, Mr. Cook is going down for more than just the moon sugar:

Cook served as deputy director of Healey’s Western Massachusetts office, according to an archived staff directory. A spokesperson for the governor’s office said state officials fired Cook “effectively immediately” after learning of his arrest Tuesday, Boston.com reported.

“The conduct that occurred here is unacceptable and represents a major breach of the public trust,” the spokesperson said. “This criminal investigation is ongoing, and our administration will work with law enforcement to assist them in their work.”

That spokesperson is right; this kind of thing is unacceptable, even if saying so is a great example of belaboring the obvious. Now, we must hasten to note that there is no implication that Governor Healey is in any way involved with this, and she is doubtless just as displeased with this nitwit as any boss would be to find this sort of thing going on – forgive me – under their nose.

Now, this whole thing does raise a few questions. Does LaMar Cook have a history of this kind of thing? He did hold a position of authority, as the deputy director of the Western Massachusetts District Office; we can presume he was in charge of a portion of the staff. He wielded some power. What kind of background check was done on this guy? Did he have a record? That’s not necessarily disqualifying, of course, especially for Democrats, but if a guy had a record of trafficking drugs, well, wouldn’t that be something you’d want to know before hiring the guy?

Fox News Digital has reached out to Healy’s office.

I suspect they’ll take their time crafting a reply.

This seems appropriate.
