Andrew Klavan calls Daily Wire ‘like the Vatican, except for straight people’ – despite its own gay ‘marriage’

(LifeSiteNews) — Social media has been buzzing with the news that Catholic YouTuber Matt Fradd has joined The Daily Wire, the media company co-founded by Ben Shapiro. Fradd now appears alongside Catholic personalities Matt Walsh and Michael Knowles, joining the company’s other principal figures — Shapiro and Andrew Klavan.

In a now-viral exchange (see clip below), Klavan quipped that the growing number of Catholics at The Daily Wire makes it “like the Vatican — except for straight people.”

Klavan’s jab was not only crass but ironic — especially coming from an Anglican, whose church is arguably less “straight” than even the current Vatican. Yet even beyond that hypocrisy lies a more pointed one: The Daily Wire itself can hardly claim to be “for straight people.”

What many viewers may not realize is that Andrew Klavan’s son, Spencer Klavan — himself a Daily Wire contributor — is in a homosexual “marriage” with Joshua Herr, who serves as The Daily Wire’s general counsel.

LifeSite previously reported this connection. In June, U.S. Bureau Chief Doug Mainwaring noted that Spencer Klavan’s 2023 book, How to Save the West: Ancient Wisdom for 5 Modern Crises, includes a dedication page reading, “For Joshua.”

The episode occurred during a roundtable called “Friendly Fire,” in which The Daily Wire hosts often poke fun at one another. But humor should rest on truth. At the very least, Andrew Klavan could have acknowledged his own company’s contradictions before taking a swipe at the Vatican.

To his credit, Matt Walsh objected to the comment during the show. But given what is actually happening in the Vatican today, it’s a very hard thing to defend.
