Queen Elizabeth II would have been “devastated” about Andrew’s royal downfall, a royal expert has claimed today. On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles, 76, had started a “formal process” to remove the style, titles and honours of his brother Andrew, formerly known as Prince Andrew.
This comes after the reputation of the non-working royal, who is now known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, was tainted by his previous association with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Although Andrew, who is also set to move out of his Royal Lodge home, has always denied accusations against him, the monarch decided to essentially rid Andrew from royal life altogether. While the move was deemed necessary as a result of public outcry, one royal commentator believes that if the late Queen Elizabeth II had been on the throne, Andrew, 65, would not be in the position he is now.
This is because she had the opportunity to take such action herself against her son and never did, instead taking smaller measures instead.
This included her actions in 2022 when she took Andrew’s military affiliations and royal patronages from him.
She also made sure he didn’t use his His Royal Highness title in an official capacity.
Speaking to Express.co.uk about Andrew’s situation now, royal commentator Afua Hagan said: “I think the late Queen would be devastated that this is the action that has had to be taken.”
She continued: “I’d also like to think she (the late Queen) would have eventually put the Crown first because that’s what’s happened with Charles – he’s put The Crown first.
“He said enough is enough. I think she would have been gutted.”
It is believed Andrew was the late Queen’s ‘favourite’ child.
