Democrats are not only infamous for deluding themselves, but they’re even more notorious for how often they gaslight the American people to try and make them believe things that are patently false.
Take, for instance, the “Defund the Police” movement (aka the Black Lives Matter organization), which they coddled to the nth degree in the summer and fall of 2020 during the George Floyd riots. Though it ultimately hurt House Democrats at the ballot box that year, in the aftermath, there was a laughable, concerted effort by the mainstream media and the left to complain that some lawmakers had unfairly been associated with the movement.
Perhaps more insultingly, some even had the nerve to suggest that defunding the police wasn’t about literally defunding them, though their claims would fall flat when woketivists in Congress like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) would sometimes say the quiet part out loud by reminding folks that “defund the police” meant exactly what it sounded like.

Here we are in the summer of 2025, and Democrats and their media allies are doing it to themselves again, citing questionable stats to proclaim “crime is down” in Washington, D.C., amid President Trump’s federalizing law enforcement there, even as residents and others who live elsewhere but work in our nation’s capital have been lining up to share their stories of families, friends, and/or sometimes even themselves being victimized.
Others, like the D.C. Police Union, have also injected some reality into the discussion, confirming “crime is spiraling out of control, and immediate action is necessary to restore public safety” and that they agree with Trump’s decision, although they feel it “must be a temporary measure, with the ultimate goal of empowering a fully staffed and supported MPD to protect our city effectively.”
As further evidence of Democrat/media shamelessness on this issue, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr shared a letter from 70 D.C.-based trade associations sent to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) in 2024 expressing major concern about “alarming trends” and “horrifying acts of violence” that had been taking place across the city:

Our organizations are primarily based in the downtown business district, where there have been horrifying acts of violence over the past several months. Mike Gill, a father of three and a leader in Washington’s business and political community, recently passed away after he was shot in a violent carjacking in the middle of the K Street area. Later that night, a young man and father of two, Alberto “AJ” Vasquez, was senselessly murdered by the same man who conducted an 11-hour carjacking spree. Police are still searching for a suspect in the recent murder of Dynamo Technologies CEO Vivek Teneja, which occurred just blocks from the White House. Dynamo Technologies had recently won a contract to provide “mission-critical cybersecurity operations support” for the Department of Agriculture. Late last year, Congressman Henry Cueller (D-TX) was carjacked less than a mile from the Capitol building. The potential departure of the Capitals and Wizards from the arena in Chinatown threatens to further accelerate a rapid decline for downtown D.C. that will only exacerbate violent crime.

The City Council should take immediate action to target the small group of organized and repeat criminals responsible for most of these violent offenses. A recent study from the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform and the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) found as little as 200 individuals are driving the surge in repeat gun violence. Armed carjacking rings, including one broken up late last year by the Department of Justice, are responsible for many of the 950 car thefts in 2023. One man was recently arrested after committing armed robbery at the same Chinatown Walgreens location six times over the past six months.
A good rule of thumb regarding Democrats is that if their lips are moving, nine times out of ten, they’re either lying or misleading the public in some other way. But when it comes to crime matters and how to combat them, you can rest assured that they are full of it 100 percent of the time.
