Another Shove for Tim Walz?

It is widely rumored that national Democrats are trying to force Tim Walz out of the 2026 Minnesota governor’s race. Evidence for that proposition continues to mount, as the Washington Post headlines: “Tim Walz was a Democratic hopeful. Now, he’s a Republican punching bag.”

Ouch. The news story is balanced, not to say ho-hum. But the Post’s reporters are not up to speed on the Minnesota scandals:

Federal authorities in Minnesota have been investigating the sweeping abuse of safety net programs for years and brought many of the charges in 2022, accusing 47 people of misusing $250 million — meant to feed children during the pandemic — on luxury cars and property as far away as Kenya and Turkey.

Why the Post limited its numbers to indictments dating from 2022 is inexplicable. In fact, 78 defendants have been charged, and 57 have been convicted, including seven convictions by juries in two trials. We are far beyond the “charge” and “allegation” stage.

But the details are probably irrelevant. Probably the only significant aspect of the Post’s story is its headline. National Democrats are, I think, trying to nudge Walz out the door.
