Bananas and rice and jail

In the street of Minneapolis, the Cold Civil War runs hot. I’ve begun collecting the stories of those arrested and charged with assaulting federal officers in the riots.

Another batch made their first appearances today in federal court in downtown Minneapolis. First up was a minor celebrity. Nasra Ahmed. you may recall, appeared on video extolling the wonders of bananas and rice and Somali culture in general. You can contribute to her GoFundMe here.

Local media reported the incident this way last week,

Nasra Ahmed, a U.S. citizen, spoke during a news conference Wednesday at the Minnesota Capitol about her experience being “kidnapped” outside her apartment complex in a predominately Somali neighborhood on Jan. 14, as ICE agents targeted two East African men.

The complaint filed in her federal criminal case tells a much different story. It was Ahmed, age 23, who approached two ICE officers on the street and began yelling obscenities. She struck one with an egg. While being detained, she put up a struggle, all the while continuing to yell and spitting upon the officers. It was all recorded by ICE on a cellphone, with audio.

What a nice gal. Such a great example for our youth.

Despite her claims of American citizenship, a consular notice was read into the court record today. She was released on an unsecured bond of $25,000.

The date for her next court appearance has not yet been set.

I’ve only gotten through a few cases, so far, but here is a partial list:
