Former US President Bill Clinton has been summoned alongside his wife Hillary to testify as part of an investigation into the crimes carried out by Jeffrey Epstein.
The US’s House Oversight Committee, controlled by the Republicans, has demanded depositions from the Clintons – and has requested files from the Department of Justice (DoJ) from its own probes into paedophile Epstein’s sex crimes.
The committee has ordered Bill Clinton to appear on October 14 for a deposition, with Hillary summoned on October 9.
A subpoena cover letter sent to the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate said: “Your family appears to have had a close relationship with both Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell.”
The move comes amid growing pressure on Donald Trump and his administration to release the DoJ files surrounding Epstein, who died in what was ruled as suicide while awaiting trial for historic sex trafficking charges in 2019.
Trump previously denied that he was aware of Epstein’s crimes and claimed to have cut ties with him before the allegations came to light.

During his presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to declassify and release the files if elected to office.
The files were believed to contain flight logs, communications and contacts of Epstein’s former associates.
However, last month the DoJ announced that it would not be releasing all of their evidence due to their “extremely graphic” nature and that there were no more charges to bring forward.

Last month, the House Oversight Committee also subpoenaed sex-trafficker Maxwell for a testimony.
The British socialite held meetings across two days with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche at the Florida prison where she was being held.
However, Maxwell has since been moved to a more relaxed federal prison camp in Texas, it was revealed on Friday.
Blanche later said: “The Department of Justice will share additional information about what we learned at the appropriate time.”
Alongside the Clintons, the committee has issued subpoenas for eight former law enforcement chiefs, including previous attorney generals from the past three presidencies.
The names on the list include Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder and Alberto Gonzales.
A spokesman for Bill Clinton has previously said that while the former president did travel on Epstein’s private jet, he had no knowledge of the paedophile trafficker’s crimes or visited his private homes.
