In a statement, a spokesperson for the brigade said: “Shortly before 7.30am on Friday (16 January), we responded to Constitution Hill in the Hockley area of Birmingham.
Currently, there are 10 fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform at the scene.
“The first crew reached the incident within four minutes of being mobilised.
“This is a severe fire on the fourth floor of a five-storey building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire.
“Due to our presence in the area, there is considerable disruption. Constitution Hill and Summer Lane are closed – please avoid the area and find alternative travel routes.”
