Andrew Mountbatten appears to have been pictured in the Epstein files lying across Ghislaine Maxwell in a strange image. Being photographed or named in the Epstein Files does not imply any wrongdoing.
Nevertheless, it underlines the close ties between the former royal and the billionaire. In the snap, Maxwell looks down as Andrew lies across the legs of several people, all of whose faces have been redacted.
The former Duke of York’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein began in the late 1990s and involved high-profile social events, including Epstein’s attendance at parties at Windsor Castle and Sandringham.
The data dump came after US deputy attorney general Todd Blanche said “several hundred thousand” documents from the so-called “Epstein files” would be released ahead of a legal deadline.
He said the need to protect the sex offender’s victims meant thousands more would be released over the coming weeks.
The US Department of Justice are legally obligated to make all files related to the investigation into Epstein public by midnight on Friday following the passing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
The paedophile financier was found dead in his cell at a federal jail in Manhattan, New York, in August 2019 while he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled a suicide.
The association faced severe scrutiny following Epstein’s 2008 conviction, yet Andrew controversially visited him in New York in 2010, later claiming he did so to formally end the friendship.
This connection led to serious allegations from Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was trafficked by Epstein to have sexual relations with the royal on three occasions while she was a minor.
Consequently, the ongoing scandal resulted in Andrew being stripped of his royal titles, styles, and honours by King Charles III in 2025.
