Black hole sun

From Politico,

Researchers quietly planned a test to dim sunlight. They wanted to ‘avoid scaring’ the public.

Good morning, dear readers. How’s your day going so far?

Perhaps for the first time ever, I’m recommending that your read a Politico article in its entirety.

The details outlined in funding requests, emails, texts and other records obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News raise new questions about a secretive billionaire-backed initiative that oversaw last year’s brief solar geoengineering experiment on the San Francisco Bay.

It reads like a rejected plot in the James B0nd movie series. “Secretive billionaire-backed initiative”? What could go wrong?

Here’s a story by CBS San Francisco about the aborted experiment conducted in the Bay in June 2024,

Alameda nixes climate geoengineering experiment to test technology that could mitigate global warming.

It was the University of Washington’s “Marine Cloud Brightening Program.” We seem to have found a rare issue on which both the left and the right can agree. From Politico,

[Researchers] had hoped to gain access to U.S. government ships, planes and research funding for the major experiment at sea.

How about “no” for an answer?

The program’s donors include cryptocurrency billionaire Chris Larsen, the philanthropist Rachel Pritzker and Chris Sacca, a venture capitalist who has appeared on Shark Tank and other TV shows.

You will not be the least bit surprised to learn that all three are major Democratic donors. Other names mentioned by Politico include Bill Gates, of course, and the consulting firm Accenture.

Much of the Politico article details the public relations missteps by the U. of Washington team. But the real problem lies in the core concept. As the man once wrote,

You may live to see man-made horrors beyond your comprehension.
