Body found in search for man, 82, after suspected murder-suicide | UK | News

Police searching for a missing 82-year-old man have recovered a body in what is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide. Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation for the disappearance of Brian Wright after he was reported missing from his house in Langford near Newark, on Thursday, November 20. Two days later, officers found the body of a 52-year-old man who is believed to be Brian’s son, Charles Wright. He was discovered in an outbuilding off the A1133 in Langford.

On Saturday, November 22, police search teams were deployed to the same area after receiving intelligence that Brian had died. The body was found on Tuesday, November 25, in a field near Danethorpe Lane, and recovery work was completed today (Wednesday, November 26).

Formal identification is yet to take place for the bodies of the 52-year-old man and the 82-year-old man.

The situation is now being treated as a suspected murder-suicide, and police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the deaths.

Brian’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is clearly a deeply tragic case, and we are continuing to support family members at this extremely difficult time.

“We again ask the media and public to respect their privacy as they come to terms with recent events.

“I would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals to locate Brian since he went missing, as well as our search teams for their professionalism and dedication over the last few days.

“A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be carried out in due course and a file prepared for the coroner.”

In a previous statement officers added: “We have also referred ourselves to the IOPC – a mandatory step because of officers’ previous contact with family members.”

Nottinghamshire Police added that they are also not looking for anyone else in connection with a separate incident where two men were struck by a car in Gainsborough Road, Winthrop, shortly after 10am on Saturday, November 22.
