Break-ins breaking records | Power Line

The continuing crisis, from the Minneapolis Star Tribune,

Minneapolis hit by another round of car break-ins; at least 125 vehicles vandalized in two precincts.

That’s 125 vehicles in a single night.

Another wave of car break-ins swept through Minneapolis overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, forcing dozens of residents to patch broken windows with makeshift covers as the city’s surge in car vandalism and theft continues.

We’ve discussed many times here on Power Line how the city is locked in an election battle between a Democratic Socialist state senator (Omar Fateh) and the hapless, merely Democratic, two-term boy mayor (Jacob Frey). At the current rate of decline, the city won’t make it to November.

Some context,

About 200 cars were targeted by vandals in the city last month, primarily in areas of northeast Minneapolis, Uptown and Loring Park. Some residents have reported items being stolen, while others say the suspects rummaged around but didn’t take anything.

It’s spreading,

In Bloomington last month, more than 40 cars were also targeted in hotel parking lots along American Boulevard.

For those wondering, Bloomington, south of Minneapolis, is the host of the famed Mall of America shopping complex.

As you’ve already guessed, “no arrests have been made” in any of these incidents. The city maintains a “crime dashboard” with statistics updated daily. Vandalism is just one of two categories where the numbers are up over last year, with the numbers spiking over the past four weeks.

I’m frequently told that crime is no longer a problem in America and that property crime isn’t really crime, anyway. Tell that to the people sweeping up the broken glass tomorrow morning.
