The New York Times has always been a shill for the Democratic National Committee, but these days it is reduced to a clipping service for anti-Trump headlines. Consider the six (!) items of “breaking news” that the Times reported to its diehard subscribers, just today:
At 10:22 a.m., Central time:
Will the Abrego Garcia story go on forever? Apparently so. Although why Democrats want to keep it in the news is a mystery.
At 10:51, more breaking news:
So far, I believe nine Republicans have filed to run against Tim Walz. Of the nine, poor Mike Lindell is probably the ninth most likely to get the nomination.
When the Speaker of the Minnesota House filed to run against Walz, was it breaking news? No. When the chairwoman of the Minnesota House anti-fraud committee, who has labored to hold the Walz administration responsible for billions of dollars stolen on its watch, filed to run against Walz, was it breaking news? No. Poor Mike Lindell’s filing was not “breaking news” even for us Minnesota Republicans, but the Times needs to continue feeding its “all elections are completely legit, as long as the Democrat wins” narrative.
The real breaking news is that Tim Walz is trying to get a third term despite having possibly the worst record of any governor in American history.
At 12:50, another urgent headline:
The paper’s framing is typical: “Senate blocks proposals to avoid rising health care premiums.” What the Senate actually did was, it declined to extend Obamacare subsidies. The “Affordable Care Act” was a disaster, and Congress should stop bailing it out. The ACA made health care less affordable by banning cheap health insurance. Ideally, it should be repealed altogether.
At 2:47, p.m., the news keeps breaking:
Letitia James was obviously guilty of mortgage fraud, and a grand jury’s refusal to indict, presumably politically motivated–i.e., the grand jurors have been reading the Times–appears to be a troubling instance of (grand) jury nullification. But to the Times, it is all about “the Trump administration’s retribution campaign.” And yet, when the Democrats disgracefully tried to imprison Trump on the most ridiculous charges imaginable, did the Times write about the Biden administration’s retribution campaign? No.
At 4:01 p.m., the news breaks some more–amazingly, with more anti-Trump spin:
Yes, let’s talk about gerrymandering. Has the Times acknowledged that its party, the Democrats, has been for many years the kings of gerrymandering? That gerrymandering by Democrats is the only reason the Republicans don’t have a bigger majority in Congress? That, for example, in New England 40% of Congressional votes are cast for Republicans, and yet there is not a single Republican representing any New England state in Congress? Consistency is not one of the Times’s virtues. Although, come to think of it, they don’t have any virtues.
And finally, at 4:02 p.m., the Times’s breaking news goes international. Sort of, only it isn’t actually news:
Ah yes, those pesky boat strike survivors! The Times, and other Democratic Party outlets, promote a bizarre theory that it is fine to blow up a drug smuggling boat and kill those onboard, but you have to do it with a single missile. If you use a second missile, it is “against the law.” I have not yet seen anyone show me the “law” in question. Let’s see a citation to the United States Code.
So, are the New York Times’s “breaking news” bulletins the most important news stories of the day? Clearly not. Rather, they are anti-Trump headlines intended to fire up the Democratic Party’s base and drive Democrat turnout in the midterm elections–pretty much the only thing Democrats are focused on these days.
That is OK, I guess, as long as you don’t imagine that the New York Times is a serious newspaper.
