(LifeSiteNews) — Taylor Swift’s iconic engagement to football star Travis Kelce could lead women to seek commitment in their own relationships, according to Conservative commentor Brett Cooper.
“I do think that this speaks to a broader conversation about love and marriage in 2025, specifically on the topic of forever boyfriends,” Cooper revealed in a YouTube video responding to the engagement. “Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift just got engaged after 2 years of dating.”
“And that might seem like normal in the grand scheme of things, but in 2025, when you go on social media and you see girls that have been with their boyfriends for 5 years, 7 years, 10 years that are still waiting on an engagement, this kind of relationship can seem like an anomaly,” she explained.
“And Taylor Swift basically just blew up that entire idea that you have to be a forever girlfriend in order to get the ring,” Cooper declared.
After years of failed relationships, Swift broke the internet when she announced her engagement to Kelce in an August 26 Instagram post.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift wrote.
Swift’s followers are recognized as one of the most dedicated fan bases and mainly composed women and girls, meaning that Swift’s engagement will have a large influence on thousands of young women and girls.
It is important to note that Swift’s pro-abortion and feminist stance has hardly been one that young girls and women should strive to follow. However, at the same time, her return to the traditional value of marriage should not be ignored, especially as it may lead many of her young fans to the altar as well.
Cooper pointed out that Swift’s previous relationship with Joe Alwyn lasted for seven years but did not lead to marriage or public engagement.
Additionally, in her song “So Long London,” which is speculated to be about her relationship with Alwyn, Swift writes, ” You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues? I died on the altar waitin’ for the proof.”
“You let me give you all that youth for free,” she sings in another line, seemingly referring to her time and energy put into the relationship only for Alwyn not to marry her.
Cooper explained that in Swift’s previous relationship she “was the forever girlfriend” who gave herself without receiving anything in return.
Now, according to Cooper, Swift and Kelce “had this like amazing love affair over the last 2 years and now they’re engaged in a fraction of the time that she was in that relationship with Joe Alwyn.”
“So, you do not need to be a forever girlfriend,” Cooper continued.
“She is signaling that marriage is something to strive for, that love is worth seeking out, that you should wait for an amazing guy, that you should follow that institution and seek that commitment,” she declared.
