At least two people are dead and eight others are critically injured after a shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, according to campus officials.
The Ivy League campus was thrown into lockdown at about 4pm, and remains under a “shelter in place” alert.
• Authorities are still searching for the shooter, according to the Providence mayor.
• Campus alerts had warned students of an active shooter and urged them to remain hidden until further notice, locking doors and silencing phones.
• Brown is a private Ivy League college and one of the oldest higher education institutions in the US, with roughly 7,300 undergraduate students and more than 3,000 graduate students. Saturday, when the shootings took place, was the second day of final exams for the autumn semester. The reported shooting occurred near the university’s School of Engineering and Physics department.
