OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — A member of Canada’s top police force suggested that holding “traditional” views, specifically on gender, is a sign of extremism.
The comments were made by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Staff Sgt. Camille Habel in a recent television interview on Canada’s CBC News Network.
Habel was making the comments in regard to four Quebecers who were recently charged with terrorism.
“The radicalization in general quite often will show by people isolating themselves and changing their behaviour,” Habel told CBC.
“If someone … believed in equal gender rights, but all of a sudden (starts) leaning towards traditional values, that might be a sign they’re becoming more extremist.”
In regard to the people charged with terrorism, the RCMP says that they had planned to seize land by force.
As for Habel’s comments, many on social media shot back, criticizing her views.
“Why did this make it onto TV? The CBC is lost in a world of lies and misinformation. Shameful reporting,” X user Claire Anderson noted.
Another X user, Aaron Wallace, said, “People are becoming more extreme because the government has become so corrupt. Get used to it.”
X user Arctic Yeti mentioned that Habel “contradicts herself.”
“Traditional values are by nature not extremist. They are historically normal. If current values deviate so much from them that there’s an extreme difference, it’s current values that are extremist,” Yeti said.
The Canadian Liberal government under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and now Mark Carney, has been very pro-LGBT and has promoted the so-called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives for years.
Indeed, Carney raised an LGBT flag on Parliament Hill on June 10 to celebrate “pride” month, a practice started by Trudeau in 2016.
