Carlos Alcaraz has ended Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title with a commanding straight-sets victory in the US Open semi-final.
The Spanish player secured a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph over the 38-year-old Serbian at Flushing Meadows on Friday night.
The defeat prevents Djokovic from claiming what would have been his fifth US Open crown.
Alcaraz’s victory propels him into his second final at the New York tournament, three years after capturing his maiden Grand Slam title at the same venue.

Alcaraz now aims to secure his sixth Grand Slam trophy and his second major victory of the current season.
The victor will face either reigning champion Jannik Sinner or Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in Sunday’s final.
The world number one takes on the Canadian in Saturday’s second semi-final.
Should Sinner prevail, he would advance to his fifth consecutive Grand Slam final.
For Auger-Aliassime, reaching the last four marks his first appearance at this stage of a major since making the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows four years ago.

A potential Alcaraz-Sinner final would pit two of tennis’s brightest young stars against each other for the championship at one of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.
British players faced disappointment in other categories at Flushing Meadows.
Mika Stojsavljevic’s bid to retain her junior girls’ singles crown ended in semi-final defeat to Sweden’s Lea Nilsson, who recovered from losing the opening set 6-0 to win 6-1, 6-1.

Fellow teenager Hannah Klugman, seeded second, also fell at the semi-final stage, losing 6-3, 6-2 to Belgium’s Jeline Vandromme.
In wheelchair tennis, five-time champion Alfie Hewett’s campaign concluded with a 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 5-7 defeat to Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez in the semi-finals.
