Chilling images show Jeffrey Epstein on stretcher moments after his death | World | News

Shocking new images have been released of the moments after Jeffrey Epstein’s death by suicide in 2019. They depict him on a stretcher surrounded by medics and were published as part of a declassified report by the FBI into his death in custody, titled “Jeffrey Epstein death investigation”.

The 66-year-old was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges when he was found dead in a prison cell on August 10, 2019. Several of the newly released photos have a timestamp of 6.49am – roughly 16 minutes after he was found unresponsive. It is not clear where they were taken, but Epstein was pronounced dead in hospital at 6.39am.

Others show a close-up of his head, with a visible injury to the neck. His name is on all of them, but sometimes misspelled as “Jeffery”.

The report also revealed that Epstein was placed on suicide watch after trying to kill himself of July 23 of the same year.

However, the sex trafficker accused his cell mater, former police officer Nicholas Tartaglione, of trying to kill him. Tartaglione was released the day before Epstein’s death.

The following day, Epstein told a psychologist that the had “no interest in killing myself” and it “would be crazy” to do so, according to the documents.

On July 25 he added that he was “too vested in my case to fight it, I have a life and I want to go back to living my life”, the psychologist report states.

Another FBI report has been published as part of the Epstein files, but it doesn not include the psychologist’s report or the timeline of events, and the images have been redacted.

No other information is given as to why both versions of the report have been released.

The prison warden also said Epstein should not be in his cell alone, stressing the need for “30-minute checks” and “unannounced rounds”.

Guards did not conduct checks meant for 3am and 5am on the night of August 9, and the camera system in the unit was down, the documents show. Staff discovered in body in the morning when they came to check on him.
