Christopher Hope vows to ‘keep trying’ after Plaid Cymru snub: ‘Our viewers deserve better!’

GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope has vowed to “keep trying” to secure interviews with Plaid Cymru after being blocked from speaking to the party’s newly elected MS, Lindsay Whittle.

Christopher attempted to speak to Mr Whittle in Caerphilly following his election victory, which saw the 72-year-old win the seat at the 14th attempt and see off a challenge from Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.

But Christopher was repeatedly told by a party official that Plaid Cymru would not be speaking to GB News.

Despite the brush-off, Christopher persisted walking alongside Mr Whittle as he congratulated him on his win and tried to ask about the result.

Christopher told viewers: “I wouldn’t take no for an answer. I’ll always do my best for GB News viewers and listeners.

“Our viewers deserve better. It’s not respectful to them, and that’s what bothers me.”

He added that he hoped Plaid Cymru would reconsider its position ahead of next May’s elections.

Christopher was not the only GB News reporter who has faced a snub from the politician today, Political Correspondent Katherine Forester faced a similar ordeal reporting live from the election.

Katherine did one interview with the politician ahead of his win, where after he thanked The People’s Channel for caring.

“He would have come to talk to us again on GB News, but his press team stopped him,” she said.

“They told me, despite the interview that we had done, despite him thanking us, that they do not engage with GB News.

“Lindsay Whittle obviously was more than happy to do so. But the powers that be implied Plaid Cymru do not want to talk to us.”

In 2023, GB News was handed a permanent ban in the Senedd in what was branded a major act of “censorship”.

The National Assembly of Wales opted to remove this broadcaster from its internal TV system in October that year, before proceeding with a permanent ban last summer.

A spokesman on behalf of the presiding officer Elin Jones had claimed GB News was “deliberately offensive, demeaning to public debate and contrary to our parliament’s values”.

And on the campaign trail ahead of the General Election, then-PM Rishi Sunak told Britain’s News Channel: “Well, the first thing I’d say is the Labour-run Welsh Parliament have banned GB News.

“That tells you what they think about GB News and GB News viewers.”
