Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly opened fire Saturday on Border Patrol agents in Chicago.
The shooter was behind the wheel of a black Jeep when they fired off the shots near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, as the agents conducted immigration enforcement operations on the city’s Southwest side, the US Department of Homeland Security wrote on X.
Unfortunately for the Border Patrol, a rogue federal district judge based in Chicago has barred the Patrol from defending itself when under attack. From the local PBS outlet,

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security vowed to appeal Ellis’ order, calling her an “activist judge that risks the lives and livelihoods of law enforcement officers.”
Speaking from the bench from her courtroom at the Dirksen Federal Building in downtown Chicago for nearly 90 minutes, Ellis painstakingly detailed instances across the Chicago area in which border patrol agents used force against residents in apparent violation of her temporary restraining order.
In the world of Judge Ellis, firing weapons at agents is just “free speech,” and the reaction should be what exactly? Will she next ban agents from wearing body armor?
If only Trump would stop enforcing immigration law and open our borders to all comers than this sort of unpleasantness can be avoided entirely.
And that is what appears will be the case in Portland, Oregon. From NBC News,

From the Bench, our robed masters declare,
This Court arrives at the necessary conclusion that there was neither ‘a rebellion or danger of a rebellion’ nor was the President ‘unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States’ in Oregon when he ordered the federalization and deployment of the National Guard,
So, laws will no longer be executed. Problem solved.
The idea appears to be that blue states will create “Trump-proof” sanctuaries where peaceful utopias will prevail in his absence.
The facts on the ground show exactly the opposite. Since the 2020 census, Portland has lost 17,000 people. Over that same time period, Chicago lost 25,000. Los Angeles lost 20,000. Illinois and California are two of a small handful of states that has lost population since the 2020 census.
Cities in less enlightened jurisdictions are gaining population: Miami, FL, (up 45,000), Nashville, TN, (up 15,000), Salt Lake City, UT, (up 18,000). I guess they just don’t know better.
It turns out that the Constitution is a suicide pact. Who knew?
