Clint Eastwood slammed Hollywood’s obsession with reboots and said, “Do something new or stay at home,” as he talked about his latest project at the ripe age of 95.
During an interview with Austria-based publication Kurier (via Reuters), the Hollywood veteran filmmaker talked about his storied career as both an actor and legendary director of films like “Million Dollar Baby,” “Flags of Our Fathers,” “Gran Torino,” and “American Sniper,” just to name a few. Eastwood turned 95 on May 31.
Speaking to the Austria outlet, Eastwood made it clear retirement isn’t even on his radar. He also revealed that he’s currently in pre-production as the director of his next movie, but he did not share much more information.
When pressed further about the state of his current movie, the “Space Cowboys” star said that he longed for a time when new ideas came out of Tinseltown, an era that no longer exists.

“I long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote movies like ‘Casablanca’ in small bungalows on the studio lot,” the “Absolute Power” star said. “When everyone had a new idea. We live in an era of remakes and franchises. I’ve shot sequels three times, but I haven’t been interested in that for a long while. My philosophy is: Do something new or stay at home.”
When the reporter pressed Eastwood on how he keeps working at his age, he made it clear he plans to continue doing so “for a long time,” Deadline noted.
“There’s no reason why a man can’t get better with age,” the iconic star said. “And I have much more experience today. Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I’m not one of them.”
“As an actor, I was still under contract with a studio, was in the old system, and thus forced to learn something new every year, and that’s why I’ll work as long as I can still learn something, or until I’m truly senile,” he added.
Honestly, I am so thankful that “The Outlaw Josey Wales” star shared his thoughts on Hollywood, as I couldn’t agree more. The laziness coming out of the mainstream entertainment industry, with all the remakes, I believe, is a huge reason why generations have decided to skip making a trip to the movie theater to sit in those seats and watch a movie with their neighbors.

Hollywood could definitely learn a thing or two from the “Dirty Harry” star, as he has always been a trendsetter when it comes to being part of movies and directing films.
His movie career is one for the books, having been part of Hollywood for the last seventy years. If, for some reason, you missed some of his earlier movies from the 60s and 70s, I can highly recommend checking out “A Fistful of Dollars,” “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” and “Two Mules for Sister Sara.”
The 80s brought us some classics from the actor like “Heartbreak Ridge,” “In the Line of Fire,” and “Unforgiven.” And then, as a director in the 2000s, he helmed such unbelievable movies as “Letter from Iwo Jima,” “Sully,” and “The 15:17 to Paris.” We are truly lucky he still wants to make movies at his age.
We will follow the news about his next movie and report back when we know more.
