CNN halted over Trump’s ‘fat drug for fat people’ remark | US | News

CNN interrupted its regular programming on Tuesday, December 2, to provide live coverage of President Donald Trump’s final Cabinet meeting of 2025, during which he took aim at Democrats, and the Biden administration.

The network switched to the meeting towards the conclusion of At This Hour with Kate Bolduan, continuing through to Inside Politics with Dana Bash as proceedings extended beyond the scheduled hour.

As the Cabinet meeting unfolded, with Trump highlighting what he described as his achievements, some viewers were angered by his remarks concerning prescription medication costs. The incident follows recent revelations about Trump’s health condition disclosed by his physician amid concerning MRI results.

Whilst discussing reduced pricing for weight-loss medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy, Trump controversially referred to the drugs as “the fat drug” and stated they were for “fat people,” sparking immediate outrage across social media platforms.

“Trump at his cabinet meeting talking about lowering the cost of Ozempic, referring to it as ‘The fat drug…for fat people'” one individual posted on X, before labelling him a “sociopath.”

“I can’t listen to that voice and those insane lies. He insults all his followers intelligence every day and they really should know it by now,” another remarked.

“What a small, pathetic man,” a third observer noted, whilst a fourth declared: “This. Is. So. Embarrassing.”

A fifth observer noted: “This isn’t a cabinet meeting, it’s your drunk uncle riffing at Thanksgiving.”

He also drew criticism after citing varying figures whilst discussing plans to reduce drug costs during the opening year of his second term, whilst simultaneously attacking what he described as a “Democratic con word” regarding an “affordability crisis.

“You know, there’s this fake narrative that the Democrats talk about, affordability. They just say the word, it doesn’t mean anything to anybody, they just say it, affordability,” Trump said. “The word affordability is a con job by the Democrats.

“But the word affordability is a democrat scam they say it, and then they go on to the next subject everyone think they had the lowest prices, no, they had the worst inflation in the history of our country,” he added.

The remarks sparked immediate condemnation, with many highlighting the peculiar timing given the approaching midterm elections in the new year.

One X user posted: “Trump doesn’t even have the slightest clue what it’s like to not be able to afford groceries or the rising cost of rent,” adding, “To him, affordability is apparently a ‘con job by the Democrats.’ He doesn’t care.”

Another warned: “Trump on TV declaring there is no affordability issue is a losing strategy for 2026,”.

Whilst a third remarked: “Trump admitting Democrats care about affordability and he doesn’t ahead of the midterms is an interesting decision!” Additionally, during the meeting, Trump was seen with two concerning plasters, sparking health concerns.
