Camilla Tominey has been left speechless after a top Tory declared the Conservatives were on track to torpedo their competition at the next General Election.
In 2024, the Tories endured a staggering historic defeat which was swiftly followed by Rishi Sunak’s resignation and a party leadership contest.
Since, a gaggle of currently serving MPs and ex-MPs have catapulted themselves into Reform after the election took a sledgehammer to the Conservatives’ parliamentary party, reducing them from 372 to 121 MPs in the Commons.
Meanwhile, Reform has stormed ahead on an average polling of 30 per cent, just as the Tories’ support has dwindled on around 20 per cent, down from their 24 per cent voteshare in 2024.
But Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Alex Burghart remained positive when asked about the Tories’ future at the polls.
He told Camilla: “If you look at the people who are setting policy at the top of the party, including Kemi herself, there’s a new generation that is determined to reshape the Conservative Party with traditional conservative economic values.
“That means you cut public spending to cut tax so that you can get growth.
“And we’re seeing a Labour Government do exactly the opposite, and it’s disastrous.”
Camilla was visibly taken aback by the bold claim

But the GB News host responded: “I know, and you’re making all of the right points, but if you consider just how badly the Labour Government are doing, you should really be doing better than you are.
“I get what you’re saying. You’re saying Kemi Badenoch stemmed the bleeding. Actually, you’ve still got a massive turquoise column of support here.”
Pausing, the GB News star enquired: “You can’t be saying that you think you’re going to win the next General Election?”
“I think we are,” Mr Burghart flatly responded, leaving Camilla with her mouth slightly agape.
Camilla accused Tory MPs of being ‘closet Lib Dems’

“Are you for real?” she said, appearing slightly bemused.
But her reaction did not faze the top Tory, who continued: “I think you were right earlier when you said that we started from a very low base after the last General Election.
“And actually the ground that we’ve made up in quite a short period of time is testament to the new leadership.”
But Camilla warned of a potential issue the Tories face at the General Election in 2029.
She warned of the “closet Lib Dems” in the Tories’ midst, naming Caroline Nokes and Victoria Atkins as examples of more left-leaning candidates.
“That’s always going to be a problem,” Camilla insisted, accusing the Tories of “neutralising” more centrist individuals by elevating them to higher-graded positions.
“You’ve made her Deputy Speaker so she can’t voice an opinion, so she can’t voice her yellow opinions,” Camilla said on Ms Nokes, which Mr Burghart refuted.
“This is all going to come to bite you at the next General Election,” the GB News star warned.
Mr Burghart argued: “I think that you’ve seen that the Conservative Party that is in one place, on the key issues of the day, has definitively moved right.”
But Camilla simply retorted: “You’re wrong. People aren’t stupid. They’re just keeping quiet for now.”
