Cracker Barrel Cracks, Issues Statement

It looks like Cracker Barrel may have cracked. At least a little bit. 

They got a lot of backlash when they changed their logo. They removed Uncle Herschel and the cracker barrel. They also made other changes to the restaurant. The backlash hit them right in the pocketbook. Their value plunged more than 10 percent, according to Fox Business. 





People on both sides of the political aisle were unhappy, and they were very verbal about letting the company know. Cracker Barrel was even attacked by other companies like Steak ‘n Shake.

Cracker Barrel has now issued a statement to try to soothe people, admitting they “could’ve done a better job.” You can say that again. 

“You’ve also shown us that we could’ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be,” Cracker Barrel said 

They claimed that they would never change the values on which the company was built. 

“The things people love the most about our stores aren’t going anywhere: rocking chairs on the porch, a warm fire in the hearth, peg games on the tables, unique treasures in our gift shop, and vintage Americana with antiques pulled straight from our warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee.’

They said: 

“Uncle Herschel will still be on our menu (welcome back Uncle Herschel’s Favorite Breakfast Platter), on our road signs, and featured in our country store.

“He’s not going anywhere – he’s family.” 





Their focus would still be on the food, they asserted. 

“While our logo and remodels may be making headlines, our bigger focus is still right where it belongs… in the kitchen and on your plate: serving generous portions of the food you crave at fair prices and doing it with the kind of country hospitality that brightens your days, and creates lasting memories.”

They said, “Meatloaf, chicken ‘n dumplins, country fried steak, sides that taste like Sunday supper, and yes, the world’s best pancakes, they’re all still here, with a few new dishes joining the menu.”  

So I guess they finally realized that people don’t like the rebrand, as their CEO had been trying to argue, or they wouldn’t be issuing the statement. They realized it was a significant issue that they had to acknowledge.

Although they talked around it, while they said they were keeping “Uncle Herschel” in some things, they didn’t say that the logo was changing back. They didn’t address the other changes with the restaurant that people were unhappy about. So if they thought this was going to solve the backlash, they weren’t convincing many people on X. So I don’t think this is going to do it.
