Cuba on the Brink | Power Line

In its last days, Cuba’s Communist regime is moving from the realm of tragedy into that of farce. Currently, left-wingers from around the world are gathering in Havana to show support for Cuba’s government. Former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is there, along with other die-hard Communists. In America, a Code Pink delegation has gotten the most attention. These are horrible people engaged in poverty tourism at great expense. Although I haven’t seen it get much attention, Ilhan Omar’s daughter also is reportedly in Havana.

Let’s start with this Facebook post by M.A. Rothman:

Look at this image carefully.

On the left: Code Pink activists grinning for a selfie in what appears to be a luxury hotel lobby in Havana. Peace sign. Big smiles. Vacation energy.

Top right: Isra Hirsi — Ilhan Omar’s daughter — posing in front of a Cuban flag to show her solidarity with the regime.

Bottom right: A Cuban woman picking through a mountain of garbage piled in the street — because only 44 of Havana’s 106 trash trucks have enough fuel to operate.

That’s the whole story. Right there in one frame.

Cuba’s airports ran completely out of jet fuel in February. Blackouts stretch across the island. Garbage piles up on street corners in the capital. Urban buses have stopped running. Cooking gas hasn’t been sold in months. Ordinary Cubans earn roughly four dollars a month and are rationing food.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

Code Pink has done this for decades — fly into whatever socialist disaster is currently collapsing, snap photos, mouth regime talking points, and fly home to their comfortable American lives. Members of the convoy urged Cuban youth to “keep holding on” and maintain faith in the Díaz-Canel government.

Isra Hirsi is there to show “solidarity.” Solidarity with whom, exactly? Not the woman digging through garbage in that bottom right photo. With the government keeping her there.

This isn’t activism. It’s tourism with a propaganda layer on top — funded by people who will never spend a single night without electricity, without food, without fuel.

The Cuban people deserve better than this circus.

The Communist visitors are staying in a luxury hotel open only to foreigners, which apparently is the last place in Havana that has electricity:

InstaPundit has a number of tweets with video from Havana, for example:

The assembled leftists took time out to express their support for “Palestine,” which again raises the question, what does Islamic extremism have to do with Communism? The answer is that leftism is anti-civilization. Leftists will happily endorse any movement or theory that tries to destroy civilization.

They have gotten their way, as civilization in both Cuba and “Palestine” has been thoroughly destroyed. And leftists will continue to cheer on that destruction, right up to the last gasp of the evil regimes that have perpetrated it.
