Dad Who Gave Up His Truck to Support the Family Gets a New One for His 65th Birthday – RedState

This week’s Feel-Good Friday is another lesson on family values and why what you model to your children can not only make a huge impression but also set a positive trajectory for their lives. Jenn Tardy is an entrepreneur and career coach, but she is also a daughter who appears to love her dad and sought to honor the love and support he provided to their family, which allowed them to not just survive, but thrive. Tardy relates a story of this branding moment, which occurred around the age of 12. Tardy witnessed her father give up a treasured possession in order to ensure his family was properly provided for. Seeing this sacrifice and dedication in action sparked something in her. So, as an adult, she wanted to be the one to give back to her father. For his 65th birthday, Tardy restored his dream vehicle to him.

Tardy explains in the video,

Just watching my dad, as responsible as he is, make another responsible decision, because, you know he’s the provider of the family. So, he took the truck back.

Decades later, I’m now in a place where I can actually surprise my dad with this gift.

The whole story and his reaction is as sweet as it sounds.

WATCH:

The power of parental sacrifice. My friend Kira Davis discussed the sacrifices she and her husband Mark made in order to ensure their children thrived.

If you are married you have a choice. I lived in the ghetto for 10 years. SAHM in the hood. Yes. We did it. It can be done. But most ppl who say it can’t aren’t willing to make the deep sacrifice. We are first generation wealth builders. We did what a lot ppl won’t these days. We sacrificed comfort.

For Davis, it was living way below their means and sacrificing creature comforts so that she could be a stay-at-home mom. I have met her now young adult children: the daughter just completed high school and is on her way to college, and the oldest son just graduated from DePaul University and already has offers lined up for a career in media. They are a reflection of what was poured into them, as Jenn Tardy is a reflection of the sacrifices her father made for his children. The great beauty of this is when children not only recognize and acknowledge the sacrifice, but also seek to replicate it.

Each one, teach one.

It is clearly evident why this video went viral–this is the type of content the world needs. Some of the commentators on Tardy’s original TikTok video were concerned about the financing of the truck (excuse me?!) and whether her father would be able to maintain the payments. Tardy posted a second video on TikTok, thanking people for the video views and their concerns, but explained that she’s got this! It’s all good.

WATCH:

“Ain’t no car payments over here,” Tardy said. I know that’s right. Girl not only learned from Dad, but also Dave Ramsey. I love that Mama is expecting equal, if not better, treatment for her 65th birthday. Tardy is obviously an incredible gift giver and delights to delight the ones she loves, so I can’t wait to see the video of how she shows up and shows out for Mama.
