Congressional Democrats seem to have had the talking points at the ready after President Donald Trump’s move to take over law enforcement in Washington, D.C., and deploy federal agents and the National Guard to help out.
Here’s a sample from Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY).
Violent crime in Washington, D.C. is at a thirty-year low.
Donald Trump has no basis to take over the local police department.
And zero credibility on the issue of law and order.

Trump seems to have a secret power – that is, exposing how silly and hypocritical the Democrats can be by opposing anything he supports, even actions to help reduce crime in the nation’s capital.
Who can be against fighting crime in the District of Columbia? The Democrats have painted themselves into a box, showing they don’t actually care about the issue – they only care about fighting Trump.
But the bottom line is that the people who have to deal with the situation are supportive of the move. The D.C. Police Union supported Trump’s move because they understand the problem. They didn’t think things had been getting better – they called it an “escalating crime crisis” and said it was “spiraling out of control.”

Now, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough helped to blow up the Democratic narrative even more when he revealed more about people he knew who were cheering this on.

“The people who are cheering this on privately are not like right-wing Republicans. They’re not MAGA people. A lot of our friends are in the media. And Democrats who worked on Joe Biden’s campaign, that worked on other campaigns. They’re just saying, ‘Yeah, I’d like to feel safe walking around this city.’ If the federal government can be a positive partner in keeping the streets safe, while again forming a partnership with the D.C. police and not taking over, then, at least the people I’ve spoken to that live in D.C. day in and day out, see this as a positive.”
Mika didn’t sound exactly happy when he admitted that.
Point being, even people who are Democrats but who have to live in the city and deal with this see this as a positive, because they, like the D.C. Police Union, know there’s a problem that needs to be dealt with. They have to deal with the issues of living there. Anti-Trump Scarborough is helping prove Trump’s point with this admission.
If Trump can bring a sea change to D.C., some of those Democrats privately cheering may find themselves flipping and publicly cheering. That could bring not just a change in terms of crime, but maybe also a change in the political orientation of D.C. – that would be something to see.
