As RedState reported, an ICE raid in Ventura County, California, turned violent after left-wingers showed up and initiated a chaotic stand-off. Since that report, it has been revealed that at least one “protester” appeared to fire a pistol at the law enforcement officers, with the FBI now offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his conviction.

Instead of denouncing the violence, Democrats immediately attacked ICE with refrains amounting to “who will pick our crops.” California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) claimed people were “crying” because their family members had been “taken from the fields.” I’m not sure he grasped how much that phrase sounded like it came from a Southern plantation owner in 1860.

How Newsom knew who was on which phone and what their relationship was remains a mystery. The most likely scenario is that he just made the claim up to try to manufacture an emotional angle. Meanwhile, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) claimed the farm being raided grew “strawberries” and insinuated that no one there could possibly be involved in criminal activity.

As you’ll see momentarily, the truth is far more disturbing, but even if it weren’t, this idea that farms are somehow pure zones of non-criminality is ludicrous. Being on a farm doesn’t negate the existence of a criminal warrant if someone has committed a crime, and in this case, ICE was serving a criminal warrant.

But as I said, the truth of the situation is far more disturbing than the picture Newsom and Gomez attempted to paint. As it turns out, this was not a “strawberry” farm (not that it being so would have mattered). It was a weed farm, and ICE was there to arrest the person running the operation for harboring illegal aliens. These weren’t just any illegal aliens, though. When the federal agents arrived, they found trafficked illegal immigrant children on site, presumably being used as child laborers.
CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott announced that an investigation into violations of child labor laws is now underway.
Here’s some breaking news: 10 juveniles were found at this marijuana facility – all illegal aliens, 8 of them unaccompanied. It’s now under investigation for child labor violations.

So to recap, Newsom and others ran to trash ICE for conducting a raid on a weed farm that was allegedly using illegal immigrant children to work its fields. Talk about being on the wrong side of an issue, and it could be prevented if Democrats would stop being hysterical and start waiting for the facts before responding. Of course, that assumes they’d care enough about the facts to have them influence their rhetoric, and that’s not a safe bet.
At this point, it’s probably time to check the hard drives of some of these politicians because what they are defending is simply indefensible. This is the darker side of illegal immigration that Democrats have actively fomented.
