But enforcement of what, exactly? From The Hill newspaper,
Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.), whose district includes 180 miles of the southern border, said Democrats are ready to commit to immigration enforcement as part of an agreement to provide a pathway to citizenship.
Ah, the old “amnesty first, enforcement never” gambit. And what is the nature of this “enforcement,” which will never happen? Rep. Vasquez explains,
So yes, border security has to be the foundation of our plan moving forward, but you also can’t do that without immigration reform and without consideration for the American economy. The truth is, we need all of those things to work together in order for us to give the American people what they want, which is a fair and humane process, a secure border.
“Fair” gives the game away. Fair to whom? The problem has always been too many illegal aliens crossing the border. America has a larger number and a larger share of the population represented by foreign-born residents that at any point in its 418-year history (back to 1607).
The sole objection of Democrats to this process has been the optics. During the Biden years, the border appeared “chaotic,” “disorganized” as 10 million or so entered the nation without authorization.
The Democratic solution is (and has always been) to simply give everyone authorization. Problem solved, and no chaos. Vasquez continues,
Let’s vet them. Let’s put them through a process which allows our economy to have the global competitiveness that we need, and at the same time, make sure that we have our border in order, which we can do.
When, where and by whom would this “vetting process” be conducted?
And who is the “we” in that “global competitiveness” equation? I have reached the conclusion that America should be operated solely on behalf of, and solely for the benefit of, its existing base of citizens.
We should be trying to maximize the measure of GDP per citizen, even if that leads to a lower total GDP number.
Meanwhile, the U.K. Daily Mail reports,
Migrant children lost under the Biden Administration found dead or working as sex slaves.
This is the inevitable and entirely predictable outcome of the Democratic version of a “secure” border. The Daily Mail describes the “vetting” Vasquez envisions,
Biden officials were supposed to be vetting the adults were were claiming the kids, to make sure they were actually related.
Somehow, children were lost in the system, with the officials unable to verify the kids’ whereabouts…
…In some cases, the adults the kids were released to– called sponsors– were not DNA tested ensure they were actually related.
In other cases, the addresses where the kids were being taken to were not verified to make sure the child was actually living there.
When Democrats are left to implement the policies they prefer, we see the unavoidable results.
