Donald Trump has issued an ominous new threat to Denmark and Europe over his proposed acquisition of Greenland as he embarked on a furious tirade on his Truth Social platform.
The President confirmed he had spoken to Nato General Secretary Mark Rutte concerning the Arctic territory, saying he had “agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos”.
He wrote: “As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for national and world security. There can be no going back – On that, everyone agrees.
“The United States of America is the most powerful country anywhere on the globe, by far. Much of the reason for this is a rebuilding of our military during my first term, which rebuilding continues at even more expedited pace.
“We are the only power that can ensure peace throughout the world – And it is done, quite simply, through strength!”
Just minutes later, the President shared text messages he had received from French President Emmanuel Macron.
The messages showed Mr Macron saying that the pair are “totally in line on Syria” and that “we can do great things on Iran”.
However, the French leader adds that he does “not understand” what Mr Trump is “doing on Greenland”.
Mr Macron then suggests setting up a meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon and before inviting Mr Trump to have dinner in the French capital.
The President’s reply to the messages was not included in the screenshot.
On Monday, Mr Trump said he would impose a 200 per cent tariff on French wines and champagnes in a bid to get the French leader to join his Board of Peace initiative.
When the President was probed by a reported that Mr Macron had declined to join, the President said: “Did he say that? Well, nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon.

“I’ll put a 200 per cent tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join, but he doesn’t have to join.”
Asked what he intends to say to European leaders in Davos regarding Greenland, the President said: “I don’t think they’re going to push back too much. Look, we have to have it.
“They have to have this done. They can’t protect it. Denmark, they’re wonderful people, and I know the leaders – they’re are very good people, but they don’t even go there.”
In addition to the screenshots, Mr Trump shared an image of him appearing to lecture Sir Keir Starmer and a host of European leaders, with a map displaying the US, Canada and Greenland – all draped in the American flag.
