Don’t be fooled: ‘Moderate’ Democrat Andy Beshear is just another left-wing radical

(LifeSiteNews) — Democratic Governor Andy Beshear is boasting about his left-wing credentials.

During a meeting with activists and voters in New Hampshire last week, the popular 47-year-old said, “I’m a proud pro-choice governor. I’m a proud pro-LGBTQ+ rights governor.”

Beshear was first elected governor in 2019 when he ousted incumbent Matt Bevin. He later won re-election in 2023 by capturing 52.6 percent of the vote. He previously served as the state’s attorney general starting in 2016.

Beshear’s success in deep red Kentucky, where he has the nation’s second highest approval rating at just over 66 percent, has been hailed a major political success story that could give Democrats insights on how to appeal to conservatives in national elections.

But Beshear’s remarks to voters in New Hampshire may tarnish his “centrist” image, especially now that President Donald Trump has all but vanquished DEI initiatives in higher education and wokeness in female sports. Even Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom, another likely contender for the Democratic nomination 2028, have clarified their support for “transgender” athletes competing against women.

Beshear was considered a possible running mate for failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris in 2024. Harris ultimately passed on Beshear — as well as on popular Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is also rumored to be preparing a bid for the White House in 2028 — before settling on the ultra pro-LGBT Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Beshear has visited several important states to test the waters for a possible presidential run. This past summer he traveled to Nebraska and South Carolina, where he spoke at an AFL-CIO convention and met with leaders of the International Longshoreman’s Association in July.

“I’m trying to be that reasonable voice in the chaos,” Beshear told local media in New Hampshire last week. “Next year my goal is to win governors’ races all across the United States. And then after that, I’ll sit down with my family and we’ll consider … who is the best candidate to heal this country. This ‘us versus them’ can’t continue.”

Ken Martin believes Beshear, who is term-limited in 2027, has a unique story to tell that could make him a key factor in the upcoming 2028 Democratic primary.

“He’s a great guy, he’s a wonderful governor. I’ve known him a long time,” Martin, the newly elected chair of the Democratic National Committee, told WHAS11, an ABC affiliate in Owensboro. “He’s done wonderful things here in Kentucky.”

Beshear has launched a podcast that he says is “a space to bring people together.” And in a 2024 New York Times op-ed, he called on the Democratic Party to focus on “creating better jobs, more affordable and accessible health care, safer roads and bridges, the best educations for our children and communities where people aren’t just safer but also feel safer.”

While Beshear is no doubt attempting to market himself as a moderate who is above the messiness of everyday politics, the reality is that he is as radical as every other liberal Democrat.

During COVID, he urged churches to “cancel their worship services this weekend” while not asking the same of any other institutions where crowds congregate. In April 2022, he vetoed legislation keep gender-confused males out of sporting events designed specifically for females. In 2023, photos resurfaced of him posing with a blasphemous drag group linked to the California-based Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. He’s also opposed legislation to prohibit infanticide in the state and vetoed legislation to protect minors from dangerous transgender drugs and surgeries.

Christians would do well to stay alert to — and to warn their friends about — Beshear’s true beliefs as the 2028 presidential race grows closer. He surely won’t be the only Democrat attempting to re-package himself as a moderate when he is just as committed to leftist causes as any other liberal.
