Epic NYPD Meme Salutes Gracie Mansion Cops – RedState

“Some Heroes Wear Capes — Chief Aaron Edwards Wears blue.”

That quote from the social media account of the New York City Police Department perfectly sums up the moment when officers realized that a potential terror attack was taking place at a demonstration outside Gracie Mansion, the official home of the mayor of NYC.

In a moment that surely will become iconic, Chief Aaron Edwards launched into action, leapt a barrier, and tackled one of the suspected would-be terrorists, 18-year-old Emir Balat, ignoring the fact that Balat had already thrown an improvised explosive device (IED) into the crowd and was preparing to launch another.

Edwards didn’t care about that; his department’s motto is “Faithful Unto Death,” and he took that vow seriously:

Hat tip to the NYPD for an epic post.

Here’s the full-speed clip of what happened; no word yet on whether the New York Giants are taking a look at Edwards to be their next middle linebacker:

Edwards wasn’t the only officer to go above and beyond the bounds of duty, though. Sgt. Luis Navarro also reacted instantly, as noted by Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch at a press conference Monday. As the attack unfolded, Navarro sprinted toward a second IED device that was smoking after it was allegedly dropped by Balat and ignored his own safety to protect bystanders.

He acted “without hesitation and without regard for [his] own safety,” Tisch said.

Even democrat socialist Big Apple Mayor Zohran Mamdani — certainly no friend to the police or law enforcement — had to admit that the cops showed amazing bravery.

“NYPD Chief Aaron Edwards and Sgt. Luis Navarro ran towards the danger so that others could run to safety,” Mamdani named the two officers who were instrumental in apprehending the suspects.

You can’t help but get the feeling that Zohran was choking on the words as he said them.

Edwards was a college student on 9/11, and it affected him deeply. The desire to serve inspired him to join the NYPD, and decades later, he was promoted to borough chief of Manhattan North in December 2025. Navarro, meanwhile, was motivated by a friend to put on the blue, and he’s served now for 11 years.

Those two are heroes, but suspects Balat and 19-year old Ibrahim Kayumi are anything but. They’re looking at federal terrorism charges for their thankfully botched attack. Bye.

Editor’s Note: New York City is now facing the consequences of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s socialist takeover.
