Eric Adams Makes Big Announcement About Future of Mayor Campaign, Then Came Some Bizarre Off-Mic Comments – RedState

New York City Mayor Eric Adams made an announcement about the future of his mayoral campaign, making it clear he’s not dropping out, and that wasn’t even the most bizarre part of the very brief press conference.

But first, the announcement. Speaking to members of the press on Friday, Adams stood behind a podium at Gracie Mansion and made accusations of racism against his opponent, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He also labeled both Cuomo and his other opponent, Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, “spoiled brats” who don’t know what New Yorkers need.

Adams said the reason he called the press conference was that there had been so much speculation and announcements about what he was going to do, that he decided to speak to the voters directly and tell them that he isn’t going anywhere.

“So, I want to be clear with you,” Adams said. “Andrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar. I am in this race, and I’m the only one who can beat Mamdani. Andrew has had a career of pushing black candidates out of races.”

“This is his career that must stop with me,” he added. “This city can’t go backwards, New Yorkers. This is a city that I inherited when crime was out of control. COVID, no one wanted to be on our subway system.”

Adams pointed out his efforts to cut down on crime, before the mic cut out for a bit, and when it came back on, he said, “And I’m going to continue to do that.” It is unclear what he said when the mic failed.

“What we have done in three-and-a-half years shows why we have to continue the success we are having,” the NYC mayor said. “I have two spoiled brats running for mayor. They were born with silver spoons in their mouth. Not like working-class New Yorkers. I’m a working-class New Yorker. They are not like us.”

“I’m running for reelection, and I’m going to tell New Yorkers every day why I believe I should be the mayor of the city of New York in 2026,” he added. “I’m running, and I’m going to beat Mamdani.”

Adams also shut down reports that he would be in Washington, D.C., on Monday. He finished his speech, and took no questions, as reporters shouted questions at him before he walked away and out of sight.

And then came the most bizarre part of the whole presser, which were the eye-opening, off-mic comments from members of the press. There were quite a few, but here is what stood out.

First Reporter: “Why were we called up here for that?”

Second Reporter: “This is such…..”

Third Reporter: “You harass reporters all the time [inaudible name]. You’re a city employee. You harass reporters all the time … If you aren’t making enough money, that’s an issue with you.”

The person off camera (possibly the city employee the third reporter was speaking with): “…you’re harassing me.”

As RedState has reported, New York City could end up with a radical Socialist as mayor unless Adams or Cuomo steps down, because if all three remain in the mayoral contest, Mamdani wins.

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist and has a real chance to become the next mayor of New York City.
