Remember when you could turn on ESPN and not be bombarded with left-wing ideology spouted by mostly female analysts? Believe it or not, there was a time when the nation’s leading sports network actually focused on sports. Those days are long gone, though, and the latest example comes, ironically, on one of the final episodes of “Around the Horn.”
The once-afternoon staple for sports fans has been canceled and will end on May 23rd, and panel member Kate Fagan decided that was an excellent time to lecture ESPN’s predominantly male and conservative viewer base on “trans kids” and school athletics. That Jamele Hill, another outspoken left-wing female “sports commentator,” is there only makes this scene all the more perfect.

NEW: ESPN analyst Kate Fagan briefly returns to the network to argue in favor of transgender kids in sports, days before the “Around the Horn” show gets axed.
Gee, no wonder they’re cancelling the show. Who would ever voluntarily listen to clowns like this?

FAGAN: Being on this show has been a privilege and a platform, and I know it’s my last time on it, so I want to say something worthy of that privilege and platform, and that is this. Trans kids deserve to play sports. Think about what you remember from your time playing sports. 99 percent of it is finding that jersey for the first time, your favorite number, community, joy, those high-fives. It’s that moment when you have a great play with a teammate, it’s the feeling of belonging, and it does not know gender, and trans kids deserve the same as anybody else does.
And Tony, this space has, on “Around the Horn,” it’s been about diversity and inclusion, and lifting up new voices because sports is joy, and sports is humanity, and the more people who have that the better.
That kind of emotional tripe ignores the issue at hand while trying to paint those who adhere to basic reality as uncaring and cruel. Nothing could be further from the truth, though. The most caring thing you could do for a child struggling with gender dysphoria is to tell them the truth. That could save them a lifetime of pain and suffering, given the vast majority of “trans kids” grow out of it because, and get this, they were never actually “trans kids.”
As to what Fagan’s angle is, it’s no secret. You could probably tell just by looking at her that she’s a member of the “LGBTQ community.” In fact, she wrote a book pretentiously titled “The Reappearing Act: Coming Out as Gay on a College Basketball Team Led by Born-Again Christians.” Those darn Christians and their 2,000-year-old, tried and true religious beliefs, am I right?
Here’s the thing, though: Not a single “trans kid” is being stopped from playing sports.

That’s the sleight of hand people like Fagan use. Any “trans kid” can play in the various sports leagues that match their biological sex and actual gender. That so many of them don’t choose to do so, usually because they stunk until they jumped over to take advantage of women in their own sports leagues, is not the fault of people who live in reality. There is no discrimination happening. There is no hate. There is no depriving “trans kids” of the joy of sports. There is only a desire to protect girls from being abused.
At this point, I’m just going to assume ESPN wants to die. The network saw its ratings continue to crater in 2024, and the only thing saving it from total financial ruin is the NFL and “Monday Night Football.” ESPN’s choice to continue to have people like Fagan insult the majority of its viewer base is self-destructive. It’s also just bad TV and not entertaining.
