Police evacuated an EU building and cordoned off the main road in the European Quarters in Brussels, Belgium, on June 3. The evacuation was reportedly prompted by the report of a “suspicious luggage” in the area.
The building evacuated was the Copernicus building, home to the digital department DG Connect within the EU Commission. One staffer told Politico: “We haven’t been told what’s going on.” The news outlet added a police officer was overheard telling people that a suspicious luggage had reported in the area.
Earlier, at 1.15 local time (12.15 BST), the commission informed staff told staff of a police intervention over a “suspicious item” in front of Loi 65. It urged workers to: “Stay away from the windows” and “Avoid the area.”
But in a follow-up message at 2:20 pm local time (1.20pm BST), the commission said: “Police intervention near the building finished. Situation back to normal,” as per Politico.
