Feds take over case of Minnesota political shootings

The U.S. Attorney for Minnesota has taken over the case, for now, of Vance Boelter, accused of murder and shooting two members of the state legislature and their respective spouses.

Boelter was captured in rural Sibley County last night, not far from his home. Just after midnight, he was transferred to Hennepin County jail,

This morning, U.S. Marshals took him into federal custody and Boelter is scheduled to make his first court appearance in federal court in St. Paul at 1:30 pm CDT.

He is charged in federal court on six counts, including two counts of murder. He is charged in state court on four counts, so far.

Unlike the state murder charges, the federal murder charges potentially carry the death penalty.
