Sarah Ferguson once made a heartbreaking comment about her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The former Duchess of York, who has now, like Andrew, lost her royal title owing to her association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein once gave an interview about her life with the disgraced former royal.
In the 2024 interview with The Sunday Times, which took place days before the bombshell revelation that Andrew had been associated with an alleged Chinese spy, Sarah opened up about her relationship with him. She said: “I know I’m all right because Beatrice, Eugenie and my sister love me. I think Andrew, too. I hope so.”
She went on to speak about how they’d met, saying: “I first met Andrew when I was 12. My first thought was that I was going to marry him. We came back into each other’s lives when Diana invited me to Ascot in 1985, and six months later, we were engaged.”
Sarah went on: “You weren’t allowed to hang out or live with each other then. Diana couldn’t, I couldn’t. But they learnt from us, and Sophie [Duchess of Edinburgh] and Catherine [Princess of Wales] could. They both got to know their boys.”
She added: “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 %.
“He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.
“I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”
Sarah’s comments appear to look like a distant memory now, as, according to sources, she now allegedly keeps her communication to a minimum with her ex-husband, as they both count their last days in their home, Royal Lodge.
Andrew is expected to move out of the Windsor mansion sometime in the new year and head to Norfolk, where he’ll find refuge at one of the King’s private homes on the Sandringham Estate – widely reported to be Marsh Farm near the village of Wolferton.
Fergie’s next home has not been confirmed yet, but reports suggested she could move into one of her daughters’ homes, either in Portugal or in the Cotswolds.
