Sarah Ferguson previously referred to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor as a “sad man” in a tell-all interview in 2024. The 66-year-old, who was married to Andrew between 1986 and 1996, revealed that she “wouldn’t let Andrew down” as claims mounted regarding his past friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Speaking about how her late mum left her dad for another man, Sarah discussed how she then became his carer. Known for living with Andrew at Royal Lodge since 2008, Sarah said: “When Jane left for Australia, I became a carer for Dad. I was left to look after a sad man,” she added, “which is sort of what I’m doing now” – in reference to her ex-husband.
Despite the reference, she spoke fondly of Andrew, adding: “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind.
“Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today. I won’t let him down.
“He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”
As well as Andrew losing his royal titles and honours in late October and early November 2024, Sarah was also stripped of her Duchess of York title.
Several charities also severed their ties with her due to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
This came after an email resurfaced from 2011 in which Sarah referred to Epstein as a “supreme friend”.
Speaking in the same interview, Sarah’s sister Jane said: “Sarah and Andrew are the best divorced couple I know. They’ve done it for their children; it’s incredible.
“I came to stay at Royal Lodge in May [2024] and went riding with Andrew at Windsor Castle. It was lovely to get back on a horse and ride through the grounds again.”
