President Donald Trump welcomed the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the White House to sign a peace agreement for the area, following decades of fighting between the two countries.
During a press conference at the White House, the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, gave President Trump all the credit and said that without his personal efforts, the two sides wouldn’t be there on Friday to sign a peace agreement, bringing more stability to the region.

“Today, we have reached a significant milestone… We are laying a foundation to write a better story than the one we had in the past,” Pashinyan said. “This breakthrough would simply not have been possible without President Trump’s personal engagement and his resolute commitment to peace in our region.”
“The [initiation] of a peace agreement will pave the way to end the decades of conflict between our countries and open a new era based on the full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other,” he added, noting that today’s declarations, “gives confidence and assurance that we are opening a chapter of peace, prosperity, security, and economic cooperation…”

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev also reflected on the president’s involvement and agreed with the Prime Minister of Armenia that Trump should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.

“Can I have a suggestion, so maybe we agree with Prime Minister Pashinyan to send a joint appeal to the Nobel committee to award President Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize… This is a tangible result of President Trump’s leadership, and no one could’ve achieved that,” Aliyev told members of the press.
“So, who, if not President Trump, deserves the Nobel Peace Prize?” he asked, pointing out that the honor has been given to those who have done less. “But President Trump in six months did miracle. “
The two men then shook hands with President Trump in the middle, holding their handshake, before the three signed the Joint Declaration of the outcomes of the “Trump Route For International Peace and Prosperity Summit.”

Ahead of the signing, President Trump talked about the troubled past between the two warring countries, noting that they were enemies and now friends.

Trump also announced that the U.S. was additionally signing bilateral agreements with both Armenia and Azerbaijan “to expand cooperation in energy, trade, and technology — including AI.”
