A group of four young women devoured £300 worth of steaks and cocktails before brazenly leaving without paying the bill. Cheers Restaurant, which opened in Norwich this January following the success of its existing venues in Thetford and Bury St Edmunds, was left out of pocket after the incident.
The four women fled from Cheers in Norwich after finishing off steaks and Baileys shots on October 5, shortly after 6pm. The receipt, shared with The Sun, showed that the women had tucked into more than £130 worth of steaks and downed 11 shots of Baileys, amounting to £71.50.
The restaurant owner Andrea Marinho told The Sun: said: “They need to be accountable because it just cannot keep happening. We have a lot that we need to do every single day. We are new to Norwich.
“We opened in January, so it’s still new. We still try to bring people in. The first few months is always a struggle. There’s always a lot going and then things like that happen. It’s frustrating and really sad. What kind of model are they for their children?”
A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said: “Police are releasing CCTV images of four women they would like to speak to in connection with a theft.
“The incident happened on October 5 at 6.10pm on Surrey Street, Norwich, when a group of women entered a restaurant and failed to pay for their meal before leaving.
“Anyone who recognises those featured in the images or has any information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Norfolk Police via any of the following channels quoting reference: 36/72063/25.”
The steakhouse describes itself as “a different concept of dining” and “a unique style restaurant”.
Their website reads: “The goal of Cheers is to make every guest experience a great and exciting one and to serve good quality food.
“It’s a great place for almost any occasion, providing you an excellent service with professional and friendly customer service while making the experience memorable.”
