The border patrol is winding down its week-long surge in Charlotte, North Carolina and gearing up for a surge in New Orleans, Louisiana. From The Hill newspaper,
New Orleans braces for arrival of federal troops in immigration crackdown.
“Braces”? They should be greeted as liberators. [On a personal note, I achieved a life goal a couple of years ago when I dined at Antoine’s (1840).]
Details from The Hill,
President Trump’s federal immigration crackdown with move to New Orleans next week with 250 troops set to take part in operations in the city.
The operation, which starts Dec. 1 and is dubbed “Swamp Sweep.”
The goal?
Officers intend to arrest 5,000 people between Louisiana and Mississippi through this operation.
Nice! With Republican governors in place in both states, the operation should go much more smoothly than the most recent stop. Speaking of which, from CNN,
Charlotte officials say Border Patrol operation has ended, but DHS insists immigration enforcement will continue.
Less call it “continuing,” but less surgey. CNN reports on 370 arrests over the five-day surge. CNN claims, without evidence,
Over more than five days, enforcement actions disrupted life across the city, resulting in business closures, children kept out of school, and widespread fear in the community.
A productive week, to be sure, but did it really justify the city keeping 30,000 kids out of school?
Just as well, from WFAE Public Radio in January of this year,
Gaps in fourth-grade math scores between Hispanic and white students, and Black and white students are wider now than they were in 2003.
Charity begins at home.
